I have been a liquid tie dyer since I was a kid trying it out at the local community centre. In 2012, I started a fibre company hand dyeing plant based yarns with procionMX dyes. In 2023 I discovered ice dyeing, and this has completely changed the way I dye. When I looked around for ice dye blend companies in Canada, I could not find any. I've purchased from G&S, ProChem & Dharma in the past, but like everyone lately, the shipping costs for supplies from outside of Canada is making my cost of goods too expensive. I have experience as a process colour printer, and with colour formulations and blending from working in the sign industry.
I decided to purchase 16.5 lbs (7.5 kgs) of 3 colours from G&S and I am making blends with the 14 lbs of colours I have on hand. Most of my dyes on hand are also from G&S, the rest are from ProChem.
I have created 32 dye blends, specifically meant for ice dyeing. I have a huge list of formulations to try out, and folds and techniques I want to try out with ice dyeing. The colours are bursting at the seams in my head trying to get out!
